American Table Lamp

L177. American double-light electric table lamp, having eight caramel-slag glass panels fitted to a golden-brown bronze painted metal domed shade, supported by a matching painted metal base.

The caramel-slag glass panels in the shade are marbleized fiery opalescent white and “caramel,” fitted behind and conforming to open-work metal trapezoidal frames that are divided by reeded bars and which radiate from a step-molded domed cap molded with eight radiating pointed oval leaves within a double bead-and-reel border. Each metal frame is decorated with a waisted scrolled handled flower-basket that has a trefoil-apron, centering two swagged scrolling vines which spread over the lower panel; lined sides embellished by punctuated honeysuckle, and a crown of two intertwined “S”-scrolled vines.

The metal lamp-base is a hollow columnar florifom molded as a large slender closed bellflower cupped in sepals, annulated upon an ogee-shaped base having six narrow ribs dividing an equal number of radiating rounded lobes each centered by a smaller conforming stippled panel with a dark-brown painted waisted chevron.

The electrification of the lamp uses a cord which enters the top of the columnar base, traveling through the shaft, continuing into a rod extension and terminating at a wire-cup which anchors two electric sockets. The wire-cup is designed to receive the lamp-shade, fitted with a projecting screw that projects through the cap of the lamp-shade, secured with a finial molded as an acanthus-flowerhead inverted on a waisted base.

Dating is c. 1920-1940. Good overall condition with minor paint flakes. Measures 23" tall with a shade that is 9" tall and 19" diameter; the base is 8 ½" diameter. $995.00.
