JANET'S ANTIQUES WAS FOUNDED FOR THE LOVE OF ANTIQUES AND THE PEOPLE WHO BUY THEM.

OUR HISTORY:
In 1973 Janet Hoopes left her studies for the PhD to found Janet's Antiuqes. In 1985, Janet's
daughter, Elizabeth Jane Barber, left her PhD. studies and joined Janet in the business. Together
they expanded the early inventory of Antique Furniture from the late 19th Century to include 18th
Century Period Furniture, Federal Furniture, Victorian, Rococo Revival, Renaissance Revival,
Eastlake, Gothic, 19th & 20th Centuries Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, and Retro. We have
added many kinds of beautiful Antique Glass and China both European, Oriental and American; Jewelry,
modern and antique; Fine Art including Paintings, Etchings, Engravings, Bronzes, Folk Art, Art
Pottery, Art Glass, Sculpture.

In 2001 we also moved from our 2000 square foot old house to a new 6000 square foot building at the
head of University and Midvale Boulevard in Madison, Wisconsin. Although we have changed our
inventory and location, we still have the same values we started out with:

HONESTY, KNOWLEDGE, INTEGRITY AND SERVICE ARE OUR CORNERSTONES
Each of us is known for expert knowledge and keen discrimination in our respective fields. Elizabeth
Jane researches and is knowledgeable about Glass, China, Sterling and Metals, and Lighting. Janet
researches and is knowledgeable about Furniture and Jewelry. We both research Paintings and Fine
Arts, but since we are not expert in these areas, we do have other experts we can call on
in these areas. As our profession and our passion, we are committed to a constant cultivation
of the discerning eye, coupled with the savvy experience of over thirty years buying and selling in
the market.

OUR CREDENTIALS
Janet is a former member and Jane is a present member of The American Society of Appraisers. Jane
is also a member of The American Cut Glass Association. Elizabeth Jane has spoken at the ACGA
National Convention several times and is recognized as an expert in Cut Glass. Janet is a former
officer of the Natioonal Association of Dealers in Antiques. Everything we have is priced and
researched. Our customers receive our signed and researched receipts.

RESEARCH EXAMINATION AND SIGNED RECEIPTS
We take Antiques and your love for them seriously.
When we purchase or consign an item, we examine and research that item thoroughly to assess its
provenance, quality and value. As professionals, we believe that if someone purchases one of our
antiques they deserve the benefit of our knowledge and experience. You
are important to us. We believe that Antiques are valuable and interesting not only because of
their intrinsic value, but also because of their place in history. We believe that Antiques are
ours to take care of, to restore, to cherish, and to pass on to another caretaker these valuable and
beautiful pieces of History.
Your receipt will include our research as well as our personal signatures.
