OUR HISTORY: WE HAVE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR 38 YEARS.
In 1973 Janet Hoopes left her studies for the PhD to found Janet's Antiuqes. In 1985, Janet's daughter, Elizabeth Jane Barber, left her PhD. studies and joined Janet in the business. Together they expanded the early inventory of Antique Furniture from the late 19th Century to include 18th Century Period Furniture, Federal Furniture, Victorian, Rococo Revival, Renaissance Revival, Eastlake, Gothic, 19th & 20th Centuries Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco, and Retro. We have added many kinds of beautiful Antique Glass and China both European, Oriental and American; Jewelry, modern and antique; Fine Art including Paintings, Etchings, Engravings, Bronzes, Folk Art, Art Pottery, Art Glass, Sculpture. In 2001 we also moved from our 2000 square foot old house to a new 6000 square foot building at the head of University and Midvale Boulevard in Madison, Wisconsin. Although we have changed our inventory and location, we still have the same values from our beginnning when we did shows in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

Both Jane and Janet are known for expert knowledge and keen discrimination in our respective fields. Elizabeth Jane researches and is knowledgeable about Glass, China, Sterling and Metals, and Lighting. Janet researches and is knowledgeable about Furniture and Jewelry. We both research Paintings and Fine Arts, but since we are not expert in these areas, we do have other experts we can call on in these areas. As our profession and our passion, we are committed to a constant cultivation of the discerning eye, coupled with the savey experience of over thirty years buying and selling in the market.
OUR CREDENTIALS: Janet is a former member and Jane is a present member of The American Society of Appraisers. Jane is also a member of The American Cut Glass Association. Elizabeth Jane has spoken at the ACGA National Convention several times and is recognized as a national expert in Cut Glass. Janet is a former officer of the Natioonal Association of Dealers in Antiques. Everything we have is priced and researched. Our customers receive our signed and researched receipts.

When we purchase or consign an item, we examine and research that item thoroughly to assess its provenance, quality and value. As professionals, we believe that if someone purchases one of our antiques they deserve the benefit of our knowledge and experience. You are important to us. We believe that Antiques are valuable and interesting not only because of their intrinsic value, but also because of their place in history. Antiques are visible pieces of our History--ours to care for, to restore if needed, to cherish, and to pass on to another caretaker.
