Butternut Dresser with Mirror

F3977. Warm Rococo Revival Three Drawer Dresser with attached Mirror in “white
walnut” (butternut), having an overhanging thumb-molded top, surmounted by two
flanking, stepped lift top hinged glove boxes, above three drawers-- each having
grape and leaf molded walnut pulls and "race track" molding with applied circular
escutcheons. Surmounting the top is a lovely serpentine mirror, having C scroll
supports, accented at each screw finial with a carved anthemion flower, and having
a tall C scroll pediment, centered by two large carved nuts and a fig, tied with
an acanthus leaf vine, and flanked on each shoulder with delicately ring turned
finials. Below the three drawers is a hidden frieze drawer. The case is mounted
on two rounded front feet.
Because this piece has a wide top, utilizing the glove boxes as a second tier,
it could function as a dramatic serving piece or a bar as w ell as a hall piece
or clothes or linen storage piece.
