Set of Four Hitchcock type Chairs

F1603. Set of Four Matching Hitchcock Style Chairs
in maple and curly maple, having a crest rail scrolled in
the center and flanked by extended ring turning. Below
the crest rail is a wide shaped cross rail. the stiles are
shaved on the front and have ring scribing below. The caned
seat is flared and scrolled at the front. the front legs
are ball turned at the top, above an extended ring turned
baluster, and terminate in small ball feet. The front
stretcher has a central ball with flanking tapered ring
turning. Plain cylindrical stretchers are on each side of
the legs and one is in the rear. the scrolled back and seat
are both curly maple. The cross rails are bird'seye maple.
Dimensions are 17" wide x 16" deep x 17 1/2" tall.
34" tall back. Refinished. The seat on one is broken out
and that seat frame is cracked and pulled away on the left
side. To be purchased with the other three at half price.
Old refinishing. Circa 1830-1850.
